Hundreds more Transit Shelters in Toronto Seeing the Light with SolarOne LED Shelter Lighting Kits
Needham, MA - SolarOne Solutions, Inc. is pleased to announce that hundreds of its new LED Shelter-Lighting Kits (LSK) are being installed in transit shelters across the Greater Toronto Area. This is part of Toronto’s Coordinated Street Furniture Program, the City’s 20 year commitment to make streets more pedestrian friendly, and promote a positive Toronto identity. Executed by Astral Out-Of-Home, the program impacts over 25,000 street furniture elements.
The new LSK provides solar-powered, motion-activated security lighting in many of the area’s transit shelters. With the added lights, maps are clearly visible, riders are more secure and bus drivers can see shelter occupants. The kit consists of a ceiling-mounted enclosure and a solar panel that mounts to the roof. A single person can install the system in under 45 minutes.
Astral Out-of-Home’s Manager Brad Chebot (or AOH’s technical advisor Kieran Davies) says that they evaluated several options and found the LSK to offer the best overall lighting characteristics and overall value to the city.
The vandal-resistant enclosure integrates two high-efficiency LED lights, batteries, controls and an occupancy sensor. The kit is designed to operate in a wide range of climates and operating conditions.
“SolarOne’s LSK is the latest development in a decade-long history addressing the needs of the transit and shelter market,” says SolarOne CEO, Moneer Azzam. “It represents our continued commitment to the market and to the Coordinated Street Furniture Program.”
The street furniture program offers the community over 26 transit shelter options. For security lighting as well as advertising illumination applications, SolarOne helps the partners deploy quickly and avoid grid installation costs such as trenching, wiring and hook-up.
