Solar Lighting Manufacturer, SolarOne Inc., Wins 2017 GreenTech Award

May 4, 2017 - Needham, MA - The Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce has recognized SolarOne “For its unique advances in illuminating our public spaces worldwide with zero carbon emissions” and presented President Moneer Azzam with the 2017 Green Tech Award. In his introduction of the award,


Chamber President Greg Reibman asked the audience, “Did you know that there’s a business in Needham that’s created outdoor lighting projects in 15 different countries, including a medical facility in Peru, a school in Nigeria, roads in Saudi Arabia and one thousand transit shelters in Toronto?” going on to say, “This same company has illuminated a bike path in Somerville, provides Mass Maritime Academy’s outdoor lighting needs, lights up the Los Angeles Greenway and Philadelphia's Schuylkill River Trail.” 


Also on hand to celebrate the Green Breakfast Awards were Governor Charlie Baker, Mayor Setti

Warren and Needham Board of Selectmen Chair Marianne Cooley. Chair Cooley took the opportunity to announce approval of matching funds to help market the N-Squared Innovation District where SolarOne has been a headquartered since 2009. The N-Squared District and the Boston Metropolitan Area at large are home to many renewable energy, lighting and storage technology companies that, as a group, create a dynamic hub which is ideal for SolarOne’s Solar Lighting research, development and manufacturing efforts. 


President Moneer Azzam commented, “It’s a pleasure to be operating here in the N-Squared District and to see the visible and meaningful support that we get from both the local community as well as the Commonwealth.
